WHAT IS HORIZON 2020?
HORIZON 2020 is the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme. WithIn a period of 7 years (2014-2020), it has allocated approximately €80 billion. (Private investments are not included in this amount).
HORIZON 2020 is the financial instrument that implements the Innovation Union, a Europe 2020 Strategy flagship Initiative aiming at securing Europe’s global competitiveness.
This programme is considered to be a means of promoting economic growth and jobs. Horizon 2020 has the political support of Europe’s leaders and of the Members of the European Parliament. The above have unanimously agreed that research is an investment in our future that lies at the heart of the EU’s blueprint, guaranteeing smart, sustainable and inclusive growth and jobs.
By combining research with innovation, “Horizon 2020” helps to achieve this objective emphasizing on excellent science and industrial leadership, as well as addressing societal challenges. The objective is to ensure that Europe develops world-class science, removes any barriers concerning innovation and facilitates collaboration between the private and public sectors in order to deliver innovation.
“Horizon 2020” is open to everyone, with a simple structure that reduces both bureaucracy and time needed for participants to be able to focus on what is really important. This approach ensures the completion of the projects and the fast delivery of results.
The EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation will be complemented by further measures concerning the completion and further development of the European Research Area. These measures will aim at removing barriers as regards the creation of a genuine, single market for knowledge, research and innovation.
